Blessed to Be a Blessing

Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done. — Proverbs 19:17 (NIV)

On Saturday, 29 March 2025, the Windhoek United Congregational Church had an Outreach to the community of Groot Aub, a rural settlement approximately 60km south of Windhoek. The focus of our Church for the year is to help establishing and growing kingdom communities through promoting true discipleship of Jesus Christ. We do this by living out and manifesting the love of God; and help capacitating people, especially the young, to confront and overcome everyday challenges in the spirit of hope in Jesus Christ. We believe in what Nelson Mandela said: “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.”

Our Outreach to Groot Aub was facilitated by the Church’s Evangelism Ministry in collaboration with the Diakonia Ministry and Preaching and Teaching Ministry. We further worked with the Moria Parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia, who so generously availed their facilities to us.

Just in this small community, beset by extreme levels of poverty and lack of employment opportunities, we were able to identify more than 40 young people whom the Church will sponsor through a 14 day programme that will help them be more effective in seeking and finding employment in Windhoek and around; connect and have them placed at already available employment opportunities; and help them utilize their gifts and talents to create small businesses in and around Groot Aub. Our set objective is to equip them with valuable skills and positive mindsets that empower them to own their circumstances, thrive in their daily work, and have hope for the future.

Our Outreach was concluded with sharing a meal with the community; gave people an opportunity to freely indulge in the Wardrobe of the Windhoek Church, limited to a certain number of items; and share the Pantry of the Church with them. In this way, people’s humanity gets affirmed and their dignity upheld. For all and sundry, it was truly a day of celebratory worship; nourishing fellowship; opening up nurturing and transformative empowerment opportunities; immersing in the love of God through sharing and caring; and participating in explosive evangelism.

All praise, honour, and recognition belong to God, the source of all good and the ultimate authority.

Soli Deo Gloria! To God be the Glory. Amen.
